Old Business
* Banquet to be held bi-annually. Suggestion made to hold event outdoors at some location along one of the two rivers in spring 2014, such as the Bronco Club on the Nottoway. Outdoor activities such as boat rides (pontoon, canoe, and kayaks) could then be offered, placing the focus on the waterways. The menu is to be kept simple but catered. BNRP Board will research locations, dates, and possible prices for members and non-members who would attend; results and discussion to be emailed/phoned.
New Business
* New BNRP brochures need to be updated. Received quote for 1000 at $652.87, and waiting for more quotes.
* Need “Stash Your Trash” Stickers; again price quote is needed.
* Brief discussion of partnering with other non-profit organizations to fill the void of the Environmental Educators’ Institute, which for over 20 years had offered an annual college course that was utilized for teacher re-certification purposes. Although the college class would be for the “adult” teachers, the point was made that the Eco-cruise could only accommodate up to 10 students at a time. This would leave 10 to 20 students “waiting” in limbo, which is probably the main reason that the Eco-cruises are not used being by the public school systems.
* The summer 2013 issue of Waterkeeper Magazine featured the BNRP’s Jeff Turner on page 24, as being honored in June as a “Hero of Conservation” in Field & Stream Magazine.
There being no further business, President Curtis Newsome adjourned the meeting.
