Fish in the Nottoway River containe merury.

This is from the Virginia Department of Health explaining in what parts of the Nottoway River the fish are contaminated with mercury. Nottoway River from the confluence with Blackwater River at the Virginia-North Carolina state line upstream to State Route 619 near Purdy including its tributary Assamoosick Swamp, Three Creek up to I-95, Rowanty Creek and its tributaries Hatcher Run up to I-85 and Arthur Swamp up to I-85. This main stem Nottoway River segment is ~92 miles. These are the fish they tested that are effected in the Nottoway. No more than two meals/month of Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Bowfin, Redhorse Sucker, Longnose Gar, Channel Catfish, Chain Pickerel and Sunfish species. This is my advice to you. Possibly all fish caught from these waters are contaminated. Therefore all fish caught from the Nottoway and Blackwater Rivers should only be eaten twice a month in no more than 8 oz servings. Small children and women thinking of becoming pregnant, or are pregnant or nursing should not eat any fish coming from these waters.
I have been eating fish out of these rivers all my life, and lots of them. I have been tested for merury and tested a little higher than normal. So I have cut back on eating so much fish. It’s up to you, so use this information wisely.
