December 19 Blackwater Patrol

Goodbye Riverkeeper Hello RiverGuard
Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 19th through the 22nd on the Blackwater below Franklin, yes four days this time. The water was low, had some weird stuff floating on it and was 38 degrees. Chilly Willy On The Blackwater
Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 14th through the 16th on the Blackwater above Joyner’s Bridge. The water was 36 degrees. Air temps ranged from 21 to 55. IT WAS COLD! In fact on the second day by the late afternoon I was as cold as I have been in many years on the river. Read more →

Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 14th through the 16th on the Nottoway below Delaware. The water was 48 degrees. On my prior trip on the 2nd of November the water was 63, that’s a 15-degree drop, which is a lot when talking about a body of water. Read more →

Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 1st through the 3rd on the Nottoway below Delaware. The water was 48 degrees. Air temps ranged from 30 to 65. Trash was practically nonexistent. The water is in terrible shape though as of this writing. Read more →

Fabulous Fall On The Blackwater
Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 2nd through the 4th on the Blackwater below Franklin. Air temps ranged from 53 to 77 degrees. The river was 63 degrees and leafy, so much so it was hard to run the boat for long without having to stop and clear the propeller. Read more →

Ye Old Fish Shack
Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 21st through the 23rd on the Nottoway below Delaware. Air temps ranged from 60 to 82 degrees. The river was 75 degrees, stagnant, nasty and smelled like dead fish. I picked up two pieces of trash the entire three days I was out there. There are not many rivers in Virginia where one can claim that I bet. Read more →

September 16th 2017 Blackwater Patrol

Sunken Schooners On The Blackwater
Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 16th through the 18th on the Blackwater below Franklin. Air temps ranged from 60 to 82 degrees. The river was 72, clear and in good shape. I saw no water quality issues other than the cows pooping in the river. Trash on this trip was light for the Blackwater, I picked up only about a half a bag. Read more →
