October 23rd Blackwater Patrol

Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 23rd through the 25th on the Blackwater above the Steele Bridge.  The water was murky, 58 degrees and 4.75 on the USGS gauge at Burdette.  I saw no water quality issues and as expected there was hardly any trash.  Read more →

October 11 Blackwater Patrol

Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 11th through the 13th on the Blackwater below the VDGIF ramp on Rt. 603.  The water was clear, 60 degrees and 5.85 ft. on the USGS gauge at Burdette.  That is bout as perfect a condition for the river to be in for fishing on that part of the river.  Read more →

September 26 Riverkeeper Patrol

Spirit of Moonpie and I spent the 26th through the 28th on the Blackwater below Franklin.  The water was normal, clear and 67 degrees.  Air temps ranged from 57 to 83 degrees.  Skeeters were terrible on this trip, no problems with giant ones but there were millions of small ones.  Trash was heavy and I easily filled a large VDOT bag.  Not sure why there was so much this trip, but the majority of the trash began where the Franklin stormwater ditch comes to the river.  There was very little trash upriver from that point source.
